Read To Your Baby

Baby's Very First Bath Book

Reading to your baby can be extremely important in their development. By reading to your baby you will build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and development. You wouldn't wait to talk to your baby until they can fully talk to you. There is no need to wait wait to read to your child until they can read. There are in fact many studies that show the benefits of reading to your babies that have been done by educational experts. While many of the positive effects will not manifest until they are toddlers or preschoolers the important influences are forged in infancy.

Baby's First Christmas

A lot of parents when finding out that they are expecting a new baby rush to get a crib, clothes, stroller, a car seat and such. The first things my husband and I bought were books and a superbaby onesie! We had actually been building our children's libraries before we had even met each other! We feel that a well stocked library is an investment that is unmeasurable.

Some of the advantages of reading to your baby are:

ABC
Bonding-When you are reading aloud to your baby they will be soothed by the cadence of your voice. As they are snuggled close they will hear your heartbeat and smell your familiar smell. They will soon associate books snuggling, fun and secure time with mom or dad

Early Language skills-By reading to your baby they will be introduced to how their native language works. How words and sentences sound and how to make sounds.
Baby's First Touchy-Feely Book

Cognitive Stimulation-Everything that makes up a book, the colors of the pictures, the flow of the words being read and the textures they see and feel will help your baby's growth and awareness.

Healthy Expression and Communication-By exposing your baby to different situations they will learn how to act and express emotions in a positive way.

More restful sleep-By making calm and unhurried reading a part of your baby's bedtime or nap time routine will help signal to them that it is time to sleep and have a restful slumber. While it may take a few times to get into the rhythm that is right for you and your baby, if you stick with it bedtime read alouds will become a wonderful part of your day.

Sleepy Baby
They are drawn to bold and contrasting colors, geometric patterns, shiny surfaces and noisy books.

Babies put everything in their mouths! So go with board books, cloth books or books with plastic pages so you don't ruin the paper pages.

Baby's First Black and White Books

It is never too early to read to your baby. My husband started to read to our daughters as soon as we found out we were pregnant! Experts say that starting at the seventh month of fetal development that they can hear what is going on outside the womb. I don't know if this is the truth but my girls sure did kick and move a lot whenever daddy was reading to them!
